An Irish Author Visits our School

On Thursday 1st June P.6/7 welcomed the Irish author, Nicola Pierce. Children are currently studying the Titanic, as their World Around Us topic and are reading her fiction book called ‘Spirit of the Titanic’.  Nicola spoke to the class about how she got the idea for this story and how she spent over 6 weeks researching the Titanic before she could start writing her book.  The children found out that the main character of the book was based on a real person, Samuel Scott, the first boy who was killed during the building of Titanic.  Nicola showed the children a replica rivet and shared some fantastic photographs of Titanic from the building stage right up until its sinking.  She spoke passionately about what happened to Titanic and shared many emotional stories about passengers and crew members.

Pupils were totally engaged, listened enthusiastically and were very excited to be able to ask Nicola some really interesting questions. Reading is the thing she likes to do best, even before writing!

We would like to thank Nicola for coming into our school and sharing her wealth of knowledge with the children. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to her and pupils undoubtedly gained much from the experience.

P6/7 Visit to Armagh Planetarium

As part of Our World Around us topic on Space we went to the Planetarium on Thursday 16 March for a tour.

It began in the Dome Theatre with an informative session on the Solar System followed by an exhilarating trip on the Space Roller Coaster!

After that, we made our own rockets and Nick, our guide, helped us to launch them!

Thank you to Heather and Nick for a super day!

Gerard came to visit

Our School bus driver Gerard paid a visit to the Primary 6 and Primary 7 class to discuss his time spent serving in the RAF.

He shared lots of interesting and exciting stories, showed us some old photos and even brought his war medals in for us to see.

We loved listening and learning about your experiences.

Thank you Gerard.

Fishing Trip

Mrs Nesson and the Primary 7 children were given the opportunity to go fishing for the day. Thankfully the rain managed to stay away long enough for them to catch some fish, and break a few rods in the process.

Everyone had a brilliant day!

OUR VISIT TO TESCO STORE – BANBRIDGE

Multicultural Day

We had fun learning about different traditions, costumes, music, dance, signs and symbols in different countries.

We discovered that just because we are different doesn’t mean we can’t be friends.
